We're Off!

At 7:50 am this morning we left the driveway on our very first RV trip. We were 10 minutes ahead of my planned departure time and an hour and a half behind Lannas's plan.:) We should have taken a few more minutes because we thought of half a dozen things we forgot to bring before we were past Electra! Oh well! The day is beautiful and the sky is clear. However, Toby is not too happy about this traveling thing so far. She is acting depressed just like she did when Charlie went home. We expect it will take about three days for her to snap out of it.

Today we drove to Santa Rosa, NM. It is a little town of about 2,700 people on the original Route 66. Its claim to fame are the seven rare sinkholes formed by water erosion and connected by an underground river. One of them is named the Blue Hole. It is over 80 feet deep with crystal clear water. It is an inland dive site. While we won't be diving, water of any sort sounds great to us!

Unfortunately, when we got in the car to check out the Blue Hole, we could not get it to go into gear! We will tow it to a dealership in Albuquerque tomorrow to get it fixed. Luckily this RV park also has a restaurant. We had a wonderful meal delivered to our coach!

We have also talked to strangers :) The couple parked beside us is also having issues with their Ford (can you say FORD - Fix Or Repair Daily ?). We gave them the name and address of the dealership that Ford Roadside Assistance gave us. Turns out Bruce and Judy are from Alvord and just retired too.

It's supposed to be 66 degrees here tonight. We haven't felt temperatures that low in quite some time - looking forward to it!

  1. Have a great time on the trip. I look forward to following your adventure. As you probably recall, we were the original Griswald family. Hope your journey is as fun as ours were but less eventful. Try to stay out of the local hospitals. But if you need some advice on the best place for emergency health care on the road, give me a call.
